Objective:

Alberta Education, in collaboration with publicly funded school jurisdictions and post-secondary institutions in Alberta, is leading a systematic research study of one-to-one wireless learning. The objectives of this three-year study are to:
1. Establish and support a research-based, one-to-one wireless learning community of practice;
2. Further investigate the potential educational benefits of one-to-one wireless learning;
3. Identify technical merits and innovative practices in one-to-one wireless learning;
4. Share expertise, experience and lessons learned related to one-to-one wireless learning; and,
5. Inform and support one-to-one wireless learning implementations within Alberta’s learning system

Rational:

Investigation of one-to-one wireless learning supports the following goals outlined in the Alberta Education Business Plan (2006-2009):
1.Enrich and expand student learning opportunities through the continued implementation of the Learning and
Technology Policy Framework, including using technology effectively for teaching and learning.
2. Focus on using current and emerging technologies to increase program choice and access for students in rural communities.
3. Develop and implement a comprehensive framework of support for school authorities to facilitate continuous improvement that includes research on promising practices in the use of technology in schools. Learn More..
